Home sales data and real estate statistics
Home values cover only one side of the market. The site reads the newest sales and listing figures for the whole country, and they appear below; city pages carry them too, by metro area.
- US homes for sale
- 1,161,615+5.4% on a year, as of September 2026.
- Newly listed properties
- 394,830September 2026, Realtor.com
- Days on market, median
- 61Realtor.com
- Price-cut listings
- 20.8%Realtor.com
- New house sold, median
- $393,300Census and HUD, Q3 2026.
For its metro, each city page shows the same real estate statistics. Take Boise real estate statistics as one example: as of September 2026, the typical home value is $500,215 (+2.1% on a year), the Boise City, ID metro has 2,853 homes for sale, and the median sits at 47 days on market. Everything appears on the Boise housing market page.
Realtor.com Economic Research provides the listing figures, which stay on the pages. Alongside the Zillow and FHFA series, the CSV files include the site's own scores. Look at days on market by city for each metro's listings.
City series you can download
Rows in the city monthly file number 88,236 in long format. Each line covers one city and month, and the city slug is the key. To pull one city's series, filter the city column to a single slug in a spreadsheet. To set cities side by side, pivot on month.
January 2000 is where most city series begin. Zillow's series begins later in 78 cities, and a few of those are missing a month that the file leaves out rather than fills in. Each month's values are in dollars, with no inflation adjustment.
If you would rather show one city's chart on a page of your own, the home price chart widget builds the code, credit line included.

| Cities file | yoy_pct, five_year_pct, ten_year_pct | Percent change in the ZHVI, measured against the same month one year back, five years back and 10 years back | Zillow Research |
| Cities file | since_2000_multiple | The current ZHVI divided by its January 2000 value; blank when the series starts later | Zillow Research |
| Cities file | rent | The Zillow Observed Rent Index (ZORI) gives the typical asking rent a month. | Zillow Research |
| Cities file | price_to_income | ZHVI divided by the median household income | Zillow, Census ACS 2024 |
| Cities file | risk_score | A score of 0 to 100 for the site's crash-risk conditions; inputs on the methodology page | The site, from Zillow, Realtor.com and Census |
| Cities file | forecast_12m_pct | For the metro, Zillow's 12-month forecast of home values, in percent | Zillow Research (ZHVF) |

| States file | fhfa_hpi_2026q2, fhfa_yoy_pct | In Q2 2026, the FHFA all-transactions house price index and its change over a year | FHFA |
| Monthly files | city, month, zhvi | City slug, month written as YYYY-MM, plus the ZHVI in dollars; months with no value are left out | Zillow Research |
Value and change columns in the states file match the ones in the cities file. Percent covers the change columns, while rents and values are in dollars. If a cell is blank, the source has no figure for it.

Zillow's terms let anyone show its aggregate figures in a chart or table as long as Zillow is cited on every page where they appear, with the words "Data Provided by Zillow Group" (Zillow terms of use). Add that line to any table or chart you build with this data. For the method behind each figure, see methodology; for every source and its terms, see data sources and licenses.
